• Droppings. German cockroach droppings look like tiny black specks, like ground black pepper or coffee grounds. These are often found in kitchen cabinets, drawers, behind appliances, and along baseboards. The buildup of droppings in certain areas means roaches are living and breeding nearby.
• Egg casings (Oothecae). These are long, brown capsules that contain multiple eggs. German cockroaches leave their egg casings hidden in tight spaces like cracks, crevices, and under furniture. Finding these in your home or business is a strong sign of an active and growing infestation.
• Unpleasant odor. When German cockroach populations grow, they release a musty, oily smell. This odor becomes more noticeable over time, especially in enclosed spaces like pantries, storage areas, or under sinks.
• Increased sightings at night. German cockroaches are nocturnal, so seeing them during the day often means the infestation is large. When food and hiding spots become overcrowded, roaches are forced to come out during daylight hours.
